Hôtel des Carmes
Aurillac, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France
In the heart of Aurillac’s historic center, DODA.A was commissioned to revive a former hotel building, modernizing its 2,000 m2 while honoring its heritage. The brief: to transform the property into a refined, functional space tailored to a contemporary clientele in search of authenticity and comfort.
The project began with a complete reconfiguration of the ground floor, redesigning the lobby, reception areas, interior courtyards, and integrating an indoor pool to improve circulation and guest experience.
The 23 rooms were redesigned with a bold yet timeless black-and-white color scheme, bringing a graphic identity that underpins the hotel’s elegant new character.
In the lobby and dining room, a palette of rich materials and thoughtful details—dark wood, natural stone, aged brass, and soft-textured fabrics—create a refined atmosphere. Walls alternate between matte plaster and textured panels, while lighting design highlights the architectural volumes. Velvet seating, minimalist pendants, and layered materials contribute to an ambiance both intimate and sophisticated.
The Hôtel des Carmes now balances the soul of a heritage site with the sensibility of modern
design—rooted in its city yet firmly aligned with contemporary expectations.
