Located on the heights of Trouville-sur-Mer in Normandy, within a residential area, the project seeks to reconcile the traditional Augeron architectural style with the more understated aesthetic of the classic pavilion home.

Our clients, owners of a shop in the historic center of town, wanted to build this new house to live in with their two children. Their brief called for a design that was rooted in local traditions while being distinctly contemporary.
To achieve this balance, DODA.A Studio adopted a contextual approach, making local urban planning regulations, the surrounding environment, and the site’s orientation foundational elements in the architectural vision.

The slate-clad roofs echo those of neighboring houses, and through a series of interlocking volumes—like Russian nesting dolls running from East to West—the design opens up to a distant view of the sea from the primary bedroom on the upper floor.
The walls are constructed using hollow brick, finished with a mineral render on the northern facade, and timber framing in oak with hempcrete infill on the southern side. This low-profile timber structure rests on a silver-gray base of hand-molded solid bricks.

The entire project is treated in a subtle palette of grays, which, combined with the oversized entry canopy and the slatted glazing set behind the timber framing, lends the home a resolutely contemporary character— yet one that remains deeply rooted in the local landscape through its volumes and materiality.
